Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Calitho, eco-friendly printing is more than just following a trend, and sustainability is more than a buzzword. We are deeply committed to environmentally-conscious practices and processes, continuously innovating and adopting the latest green technologies. Our pressroom is one of the greenest in the Bay Area, reflecting our dedication to sustainable printing solutions. Our paperless processes include digital pre-media workflow and printing, online proofing, and computer-to-plate systems, all designed to minimize our environmental footprint while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Offset Printing
Our Komori Lithrone H-UV presses are designed with sustainability in mind. They emit approximately one-fourth the amount of CO2 compared to conventional UV curing systems. Additionally, the H-UV press does not discharge any ozone, a harmful greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. This advanced technology also generates less paper waste and noise pollution than traditional UV presses, making our offset printing process both eco-friendly and efficient.
Digital Printing
Our HP Indigo digital press utilizes liquid inks instead of dry toners, significantly enhancing offset quality while reducing ink consumption. These inks comply with California’s Proposition 65 on toxic materials and do not contain any hazardous air pollutants as established by the US Federal Clean Air Act, ensuring a safer and more environmentally friendly printing process.
Inks and Paper
Our soy-based inks and aqueous coatings emit near-zero amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), contributing to a healthier environment. By hand-mixing inks on-site instead of purchasing pre-mixed inks, we save over 3,000 pounds of waste annually. We are also committed to recycling all paper waste, corrugated material, aluminum, wood, ink, and chemicals used throughout the production process, further reducing our environmental footprint.
