For brick-and-mortar businesses, window space can be the most valuable advertising real estate, but it’s all too often wasted. If your storefront isn’t inviting customers to come in, you are potentially leaving a lot of money on the table. While window signage might seem fairly straightforward, picking the right type of sign for your business can be a challenge. Read more about all the different types of window signs that are on offer and what’s right for you. What are the different types of window signage? There are two primary types of window signage, with different capabilities, in use today: vinyl decals and static clings. Vinyl decals are essentially extra large stickers, using a strong adhesive to attach to a window. While decals are removable, it can be difficult to fully remove all of the adhesive residue, just like a sticker. For this reason, we consider vinyl decals to be semi-permanent. Semi-permanent signs are meant to last for a while, are difficult to reposition, and can not be reused multiple times. Vinyl decals are great for outdoor use; they can withstand rain and UV rays without losing color or legibility. If you’re looking for a sign that stays up for over six months, vinyl decal is the way to go.Static clings represent the other end of the spectrum, short term and reusable window signage. As the name suggests, clings don’t use any adhesive, attaching to glass through the static charges of sign and window. As a result, clings can be easily removed, repositioned, and reapplied, with no residual adhesive dirtying up the window. However, clings are naturally less resistant than adhesive decals. Static clings aren’t weather resistant and can start to lose their “stickiness” over time, meaning replacements or reapplications. If you need short term window signage, maybe for a temporary promotion, static clings are a great option. Calitho is a commercial printer and visual communications company serving the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
